Philanthropy in Education [PIE] is the White Rose Leadership Institute’s innovative program designed to introduce students to the power of giving back—while helping them better understand the nonprofit organizations working in their own community.

Through hands-on experiences, [PIE] brings philanthropy into classrooms by teaching students how charitable giving works, why it matters, and how local nonprofits create real change. Students learn to think critically about community needs, evaluate impact, and explore how generosity - of their time, talent, and resources - can strengthen York County.

The program connects students directly with local nonprofit organizations through interactive learning opportunities such as interviews, research, presentations, and grantmaking simulations. By engaging directly with organizations, students gain awareness of community resources while developing leadership, communication, and civic responsibility skills.

Philanthropy in Education empowers the next generation of changemakers by showing students that they already have a voice, and a role, to play in shaping a stronger, more connected community.

events

[PIE] is successful through a variety of student-focused events that bring the heart of philanthropy to local schools.

  • Community Resource Fairs in a variety of local high schools

  • Partnering with the York County Alliance for Learning Career Exploration Programming

  • Partnering with York College of Pennsylvania’s Center for Community Engagement for an innovative PIE in Action program
